Studio Days

Christopher Buonopane

It's no secret that Hollywood's culture and product is facing many hurdles in the 21st century. Recently they've had to circumnavigate worldwide issues such as the emergence of social media, the dumbing down of the average public, a global pandemic, the rise of totalitarian governments across the globe, lengthy talent strikes, the emergence of a tech industry that seeks to destroy current models of exhibition, and a 24 hour news cycle has transformed (or degenerated to) a 25 second news cycle thanks to the help of millions of "content creators" who have a soap box, and an opinion. "Studio Days" is a look at the inner workings of a major studio as seen through the eyes of everybody who's part of those little isolated, often historic communities that take up acres of land across Los Angeles. Rita Evans is in charge of the studio and much of the conflict and obstacles will be from her perspective (as the metaphorical captain of the sinking? ship"). "Studio Days" goes beyond just what the kings and queens of Hollywood have to say. There's episodes that focus on even minor players in the studio apparatus such as Security Guards, Personal Assistants, and even food service. "Studio Days" breaks down the twenty foot walls and humanizes the day to day of these iconic cultural castles. "Studio Days" takes place in a modern world where corporate oversite, dwindling business, and financial insecurity occupies much of the thoughts of these people after all, their problems are your problems, and we all have the same problems no matter what our industry or profession might be. Often satirical, at times comedic, and at some points deep meditations on life and reflections of the past, "Studio Days" takes the analogy of the Studio and cultural output as a whole to tackle the uncertain question "Where are we heading?" Are we at the beginning of the end? Or are we in the midst of a new horizon? Well nobody knows for sure and we're all trying to wade the storm and come out on top, here's to trying!
