Frequently Asked Questions

What is the selection process?
We have a panel of 12 international judges from Austin, New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles, Bangladesh, and Ecuador. Each entry is rated by at least 8 of the 12 judges. Only entries with a cumulative rating of 8.0 (out of 10) or higher are considered for the festival.

I missed the final deadline. Can I still submit my project?
We offer deadline waivers but no fee waivers. If programming is not finalized, we can provide a waiver code, but you will be required to pay the Last Call submission rate.

Will you notify entries before the notification date?
The notification date is the last possible day we notify entrants. We strive to notify 30 days prior to the event to accommodate travel plans.

 

What comes with my selection?
In addition to screening your project or discussing your screenplay, selections receive one VIP badge to the entire festival, official selection laurels, eligibility for 20+ awards, and promotion across our social media and website.

Do you offer travel accommodations?

Unfortunately, we do not have the funds to provide travel or hotel bookings for selected participants.

Is there a livestream or virtual festival?

We exclusively host live events and do not offer a livestream or virtual festival. We value the exclusivity of our premieres and selections. If theaters are open, we are hostin'.

What if I don't have a poster? Will you still promote my film or screenplay?
Of course! We list all selections on our website. Posters and promotional art should be updated on the FilmFreeway account prior to submitting. If you do not have a poster or promotional art, we will create a default image to post on our social media accounts.

How many days is the festival?
The festival is a one-day event.

Is there a livestream or virtual festival?
We are a live festival only. If venues are open, we are hostin'

Do I get free passes with my selection?
Each selection receives one VIP badge to the entire festival. All other attendees are required to purchase a ticket. In addition to funding the venue, a portion of all proceeds goes to the Autism Society of America.

I received an email requesting a downloadable version of my film. I wanted to change some things (color, sound, etc.). Is that possible?
You have one week from the selection date to finalize your entry. If we have not received a downloadable version by that date, you will be disqualified. If you lengthen the duration of your project, you will be disqualified.

I cannot find my selection email. Is there a different way to get it?
We send emails via FilmFreeway and follow up with a personal selection email via launderthestars@gmail.com. If you did not receive a notification, please check your spam folder. If you are still unable to locate it, we will resend it.

​

How do I RSVP?
Reply to your selection email to confirm your attendance. We will have a guest list with all attending filmmakers, screenwriters, and ticket confirmations.

Is there a dress code?
Only our staff is required to dress formally. There will be a professional photographer, red carpet, and a step-and-repeat banner, but feel free to dress however you like.

​

What is the seating arrangement?
VIP badge holders get priority seating, then seats are first come, first served. Please arrive early if you wish to sit with your family and friends.

​

Will there be a Q&A?
There will be a brief filmmaker/screenwriter Q&A following the screening.

​

Will there be an award ceremony?
Yes, we will announce winners live on the back patio immediately following the last screening/Q&A.

​

I won an award but did not attend or left before the award ceremony. Can you mail it to me?
We do not mail out awards. We request that everyone stays for the award ceremony. We will email a digital copy.

​

Will you change the status of my submission on FilmFreeway?
Selected, Nominee, and Award Winner are the only statuses we change on FilmFreeway. We will update all statuses within one week of the festival date. If you experience any delays, feel free to reach out via email.
